One would tend to think that this theme has been dealt with enough. And yet it comes across as very new, perhaps because of the cutting tone of the verbal exchanges between the two protagonists, or because of certain values in the visual and sound treatment. It could just as easily have been called “Variations on Infidelity” from the adept way that this study on the difficulty of living together portrays sexual permissiveness as an art of living.

And the music of Normand Roger and Denis L. Chartrand, with this beautiful air of clarinet which subtly suggests the nostalgia of impossible love, is as remarkable as it is dramatic. A success story, this story of failure.
